This remote rural property offered both grading challenges and unique opportunities to explore a refined “Contemporary Cowboy” aesthetic. The bluff-top home and office barn were sited to capture sweeping river and sky views, with a strong design dialogue between their contrasting forms. A striking entry water feature—based on the Roman impluvium and designed with three water depths—adds intrigue and elegance. A consistent six-foot by six-foot grid brings order and cohesion to both architecture and landscape, while the light-etched concrete finish was so well received that the same sand batch was used throughout the flatwork for continuity.
Four large square step pads within a larger square and three water levels. One level -- with just a bit of water over the stepping pads -- gives the illusion of walking on water. This was originally designed as a memorable entry feature as well as a sophisticated play pool that cools the entire courtyard.
