California Garden Club Meeting

February 15, 2021by Monica Perrone

Recently, Monica had the opportunity to serve as a guest speaker during this month’s Valley Lode District Meeting via Zoom. This virtual event was hosted by Ceres Garden Club with 50 garden club members across California in attendance. Her presentation covered tips regarding landscape design and included a live question and answer segment with the members who were present.

She began by giving an overview of her creative processes as a landscape architect and later went on to discuss key details to take into consideration when designing an outdoor space. She concluded her presentation by highlighting how small details in paint, lighting, and furniture can be used to add appeal with relative ease. A few of Monica’s colleagues- Sheri Brown Dion (PLA/ CA native plants/ firewise/ ecology expert) and Linda Fish (PLA/ AutoCAD/ irrigation expert)- were also invited to attend and share their industry knowledge.

The meeting concluded with a virtual silent auction featuring unique gift baskets and other garden themed prizes. Monica’s silent auction donation included a two hour landscape design onsite consultation and a copy of best selling French author Olivier Filippi’s new book “Planting Design for Dry Gardens”. As a gratuity, the Valley Lode District purchased a Penny Pines Plantation to honor Monica for serving as their first guest speaker of 2021.
